Is Your Educational Institution Eligible for the Education Credit?

Your educational institution has to be eligible to qualify for education credits as the American Opportunity Credit or Lifetime Learning Credit. Eligible institutions include accredited colleges, universities, vocational schools, and other post-secondary institutions participating in federal student aid programs.

Your institution’s eligibility will first be decided by reviewing whether you got a Form 1098-T (Tuition Statement). Though there are few limitations, eligible educational institutions are obligated to provide this document to pupils.

Your school may also be contacted straight to ask whether it qualifies as an eligible educational institution. Should you remain uncertain, see whether your institution appears on the  Federal Student Loan Program list or in the U.S. Department of Education’s  Database of Accredited Post Secondary Institutions and Programs (DAPIP).
